B8 transmission concern

B8 transmission concern

Postby klwinter2 » Mon Aug 18, 2014 7:40 pm

I am progressing with my B8 restoration..
I removed the right side engine cover (clutch) to repair the kick starter splines..

While cleaning the sludge in side of the cover... I found 1/2 of an E-clip..

I have searched the clutch side and there is not location that uses an E-clip..

NOW where do I look?

If I don't find the other 1/2 of the e-clip it am I riding a ticking time bomb?

I don't fear the loose 1/2 of clip..

I'm more worried about the shaft or gear that might come loose in the transmission...
What a sound it would make if it could engage 1 AND 4th at the same time???!!!???

Please advise

Looking at the diagram it could only be one of the two circle eclips on my diagram?

What is the failure scenario?

Forget it?

Fix it:
At the moment I can not figure out how to remove the Armature to access the case bolt..
I have the timing advanced removed but how does the Armature come off???

You need to have a special tool to remove the armature. I made an end for a slide hammer and got mine off.

I FOUND IT!

It was the E-clip for the kick starter spring retainer.

Now I can start bringing it back to life!

Thanks again for ALL your help!
