H1 500 clutch not engaging

Postby mike9812121298 » Mon Sep 04, 2017 4:14 pm

So it just picked up a project 71' h1 500. It's been sitting since 95' at least. I got the engine running sounds good. I pull the clutch in and drop gear and it chrips the rear tire and kills it. I've tried adajusting the clutch didn't seem to make any difference.

Is there anything I should look at first? I have a spare 74' that I can pull parts off

Sounds like clutch plates are stuck.

Would agree it sounds that way.

Take the clutch cover off and remove the clutch plates. EITHER drain oil first or lean the bike over with breather hole plugged.

Or place bike in 2nd gear and with clutch pulled in gently rock back and forth on the wheels. Continue until free movement of bike in gear. If no go the go to the first suggestion.
Ever started something you wish you had'nt !!
